The names of cherry, sakuranbo in Japanese, comes from
Sakura no mi(fruit of cheery) – Sakuranbo(little kid of cherry)-Sakuranbo,
each word has a lot of meaning.
— little kid of cheery, boya―坊やーぼうやーtalking to a boy saying boya is a very friendly way. bo, or bou is a short for boya. In Japanese there is a lot of words consist of bo at the last part to show the friendliness.
